Anxiety is one of the most common mental disorders in America. It is estimated that 40 million adults age 18 and older suffer from some form of anxiety, with women being twice as likely as men to be affected. Anxiety can manifest itself in a variety of ways, but the most common forms are generalized anxiety disorder (GAD),panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and phobias.

Women are Twice as Likely as Men to Have Anxiety

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, women are twice as likely as men to suffer from anxiety, with the most common forms being generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and phobias. Women tend to experience more intense anxiety symptoms than men and are more likely to seek treatment for their condition. There are many factors that contribute to the higher rate of anxiety in women. Anxiety can be a tricky beast. It can present itself in many different ways, making it hard to identify. But usually, if you’re feeling fear or worry that’s interfering with your daily life, it’s likely anxiety. There are many different types of anxiety disorders, each with their own set of symptoms. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive and persistent worry about multiple things, even when there’s really nothing to worry about.

How to Treat and Manage Anxiety and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

The most common ways to treat anxiety and generalized anxiety is by prescribing anxiety medications such as Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium and Hydroxyzine. These medications are benzodiazepines which work best with anxiety disorders. Medication along with therapy are the best ways to treat anxiety and generalized anxiety disorders. The main thing is to take your medications as prescribed and go to your therapy appointments for this to work. The medication works the best and when therapy is added, it works even better for anxiety.
